Biography
A French author of six novels, Guy de Maupassant (1850 - 1893) is considered one of the fathers of the modern short story. His works are notable for their efficiency and economy of style. He fought in the Franco - Prussian war, and his experiences find expression in his works. He travelled extensively and wrote three travel books. His intellectual development was influenced by great author Gustave Flaubert. ;
